How do I backup my Sage 300 ERP database?

Melanie Courtney

*Please note: In order to have a complete /full backup (which is recommended) and you have followed the steps below you will have 4 items (2 folders and 2 files) that will be created as a result of the database dump:

-DAT folder

-SYS folder

-DAT.dct file

-SYS.dct file

  1. To do a backup of the data you use a function called DBDUMP, which is under Administrative Services.
  2. Select the Database Dump Icon and the following screen appears:database dump screen shot
  3. Use the drop down box to select the database name and the DAT file first, on the Dataset Directory line, enter the path where you want the data to be dumped to.  Folders can be set up on your system for example –  c:\backup\week 1, week 2, week 3 and week 4.  Select the folder for the current week, then enter the date of the backup in the description field and  click on the “Dump” button.  A message that says  “Any existing dump files will be deleted?” displays.  Select OK.  Once the database dump is done, a message will coming up confirming it is completed.
  4. Do the exact same process again but this time select the database name SYS file.
  5. If you want to take a backup off site you can copy the folder to a memory stick.
